dChanging job every year, or in the duration of two years is called Job Hopping. This has its own profits and losses. Some people consider it as a means of growth, but on the other hand some people consider it as a very dangerous decision. Let us know about job hopping. In today’s scenario this has become the practice of the employees to leave one, two or even three four jobs very frequently.

Everyone make a different view about the job hoppers. Some think that they are self centered employees, but for the others they can be a trained resource available, which will not be available to them for a long time. Job hopping is usually done to get increased salary or a senior position. Some people consider it as a new method of corporate ladder.
According to USA Labour Statistics the persons of 20-34 years of age stay in a company only for two to three years. Study also shows that the persons of 20-30 years change job upto 8 times in 5 to 10 years.

In the 80s and 90s, there was a time, when most of the employees were being kicked out of the jobs. So the employees started looking for new jobs. Before that people used to pass their whole life serving at one place.
But after that tradition of serving at one place stopped and thus job hopping started. With the passage of time acceptability of job hopping has increased, because now the days of life long career has gone.
Managers prefer you if you have experience and skills. Especially for younger personnel job hopping is an ordinary issue. It does not affect the CV in the initial stage. At middle level, job hopping is comparatively more difficult and you may have to face problems due to this, at the time of interview.

HR Managers do not like job hopping because recruiting the personnel consumes time; and again creates many kinds of problems; and it is expensive as well. Managers prefer stable employees. Job hopping shows that you are not reliable and faithful to the organization. So the probability of getting new job also is affected.

If there are so many job hops in your CV, you have to take into consideration many things at the time of interview, like you must have solid reasons for changing the job. So go with full and deep preparations so that you can make the interviewer understand that how you can be beneficial for the new company. Now the question arises, how you decide that you have to do job hop or not. Inspect your situation well and properly.

Now see to it that you have something to learn in your present employment. Are there less opportunities of salary hike? Does this job not recognizing you abilities? Is this job going to end soon? If most of the questions have the answers in “Yes”, surely you should go for changing the job. But be honest; and if you feel that you have done job-hopping so many times and job profile has not changed, wait, for proving stability and commitment. Stick yourself for 3-4 years at one place and try to hold control on skills. What are the norms in your industry, you can follow them also.

There is much job hopping in call centers and you do not get any problem in getting the job. So inspect the situation and take decision accordingly.
There is a difference between job hopping and leaving the job.
1. In job hopping, the frequency of changing the job is very high.
2.In job hopping, usually the job is changed due to personal reasons.
3.Sometimes the job is also gone for organizational reasons like the company is closed.

BENEFITS OF JOB HOPPING:

• Level of experience increases and also the skills
• You get so much of exposure.
• Because of job hopping you can create a good network
• Your salary increases with every change in the job
• You can put your career on a fast track.

LOSSES OF JOB HOPPING:

• Some organizations give stock options also which create property in the long run. But you cannot get benefit of it because for that you have to serve for long in that particular organization.

• If a company faces financial crisis, the job hoppers are kicked out at the first instance

• The chances of come back in the same company are minimized. Job hopping word is a creation and found in the dictionary of the younger generation.

There may be plenty of benefits of job hopping, but lack of commitment and sense of insecurity always remains there. In films and stories also we come to know that there is a talk going on, the employee is an aged persons and the present boss is son of the old boss. It shows that the employees were so satisfied and contended that they used to provide 4 to 5 decades working with the same employer.

This used to create a family kind of bonding and commitments; and thus both the employer and the employee would remain satisfactory. Whereas this situation altogether is lacking in present scenario. What to say, even for months they cannot work together. No one is ready to hear or listen a word. Patience is lacking altogether.

Even after a slightest hot words exchange, either the employer would ask to leave the job or the employee himself would arrange a job the next day and would say bye-bye. Today everyone has his own vested interests, may be boss or an employee. Previously the interests of the institution was considered to be on the top and other interests were secondary. It is also to note that now the scene has changed altogether.

The young generation is so crazy about job hopping that it is affecting the personal family relations also. What to say about male, even female employees are becoming so much career conscious that they do not even think of the family and the kids. Even the women employees go on job hopping, ignoring the future of the kids. Nuclear family is an additional draw back to that.
